big dreams.

This is the tart I made earlier in the week.
Jack ate 2 slices.
Maybe I put strawberries in it so I couldn't eat it.
Smart or obsessive?
Also made portobello mushroom fajitas and they were delicious and very healthy.

Anyone else looking forward to the release of Missoni for Target collection?
I love the blankets and scarves.
Must have.

I also love Kourtney Kardashian's hair and makeup.
Not fair.

Random post, I know.
Jack is watching Sesame Street so I'm wasting time until it's over.
What will we do today?
I would like to go make-up shopping but that's probably not practical.
Especially with a 2 year old.
I need a manicure.
Also not practical with a 2 year old.
Need a massage.
My girl doesn't work on Friday.
I guess what I need is a Special Lady Day.
(where your man takes you to do whatever you want to do all day without complaining?  shopping, make-up shopping, nail place, antique shopping, girl movie, whatever.   it's never actually happened in this household but i keep trying!)
Sesame Street is over.
Jack is dancing.
We're off to wander the town.

Watch this video and have a happy weekend.
This song has a serious Chris Isaak feel to it.

gametime.

Jack looks very cute in his OU shirt and polo shorts but he's too busy to let me take a photo of him.  "No, mama, later."  Ok, FINE.  I'll take pictures of myself instead.  We're about to head up to do some serious tailgating.  If you don't live in Oklahoma, you just may not understand.

I'm so weird that I have to eat something fried with ranch dressing before every home game.  Is that weird?  I think it's weird.  I don't know where I came up with that but I've been doing it for years and years and I've got other people doing it too.

Shout out to Angela, who is obsessed with OU football but who is currently living in Mexico.  The season will miss you dearly.  (And I miss you dearly.)

the easter bun bun.

Baby is getting taller, skinnier, louder, bossier, and more independent everyday. Some days he's sweet, some days he's in a bad mood. Goes with the 2 year old territory I guess. This weekend we had egg hunts, a birthday, a wedding reception, and a friend in town. It rained. We ate red curry and pra ram. I drank a little wine, Husband drank a few beers. We watched an obscene number of Friday Night Lights episodes on Netflix streaming. Ohmygod that show is SO GOOD. If I talked about how great it is, it could have it's own blog. I'm sure there's one somewhere. Oh Tim Riggins, you are beautiful.
Baby was sick last week so he missed school and I didn't get to visit my Grandma. As nice as it is to have the baby around all day, everyday- this mommy needs a little break. We have several friends who offer to watch him every week but then can't ever actually watch him. I know how it is though, people have lives. I'm guilty of living in my little bubble with Baby and Husband and dismissing everything else. That's something I need to work on. But... if you are a friend and can watch Jack this evening or tomorrow evening, that would be awesome and I will owe you a huge favor. Like, if you're ever stranded in a nearby state, I will totally come and pick you up. Or if you leave your wallet at home, I'll buy your lunch. Or I'll just take you out for dinner sometime. Babysitter's choice!
What's going on- Tonight Mates of State play a free show at OU. It's rainy outside so they've moved it inside. BOO! We thought about taking Jack but I think it'll be too crowded inside so we probably won't go. Water for Elephants opened in theaters this weekend- i loved the book so i'm excited to see it. Wednesday we have The Oh Johnny! Girls' rehearsal. Thursday we play the opening day of the Norman Music Festival. Bill and Dee's at 11pm. Saturday I play twice with my other band, Bulletproof Tiger. 1:30 at the Opolis and 3:30 at the Blue Bonnet Bar.
above: My dad cut a piece of birthday cake for Jack (my niece's sweet 16) and the birthday girl wasn't even there yet! There was a big hole cut out while she blew out her candles. Jack was appreciative.
above: The early works of Jack H. E. Brady. Baby Jack's school/church had an art fundraiser for a new playground and art center. Jack's painting sold for $30. The kid has art in his blood- i can actually hang it up! I love it. Some of those other kids have questionable art skills. Jack, once again, you rule.

above and below: Saturday night we had a casual sort of wedding reception to attend. It was nice to see old friends. We stopped by The Library and The Garage before the party. The Garage is new and I like it. Last week I went to Blackbird Gastropub and liked it too. Feels good to have some new places in town to go to.
Baby Jack calls the Easter Bunny "Bun Bun" and is terrified of him. I never knew he could hold on to me so tight. I don't blame him though- Bun Bun was pretty creepy looking. Sunday we had lunch at The Trails. Bun Bun was there and we went on an egg hunt in the men's locker room because of the crazy rain floods. Jack had fun, I had a mimosa. I went casual with gap jeans and a white banana republic shirt, a trench, and heels. A pastel dress just seems weird to wear when it's dark and crappy outside. I LOVE Easter dress hunting so it was disappointing but there's always next year.

I erased all contacts in my phone yesterday. Yay! I'm such a mess already this week. If you're around, let's get a glass of wine or something. I need to get out of the house, even if it's for an hour.

This Ol' Honky Tonk.

Today has been a great day. Baby Jack slept in so we slept in. Had brunch at Iguana Grill in OKC with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law for Husband's birthday. Afterwards, Husband, Jack and I went to Edmond to visit my grandma in her new place- she was moved to a nursing home. It was a pleasant place and she was in good spirits, playing with Jack and talking golf with Husband.
Up top- This is what I'm doing right this second. Sitting on the back porch, drinking a budweiser with ice, listening to Townes Van Zandt and Dwight Yoakam and painting my nails my favorite shade- OPI Koala Berry. Jack is playing in the yard with his four wheeler and his baby lawn mower and Husband is drinking beer and singing along to songs, rocking in his chair.
It's 77 degrees and the sun is setting over the giant hill in our back yard. This is Oklahoma so we're enjoying this weather now because it could very well blizzard or tornado tomorrow, no telling.
Baby Jack had a chocolate ice cream cone on the way home. Very messy.

Last weekend, Husband and our friend David went up to Tulsa to watch Broken Social Scene at the legendary Cain's Ballroom. I spent most of my high school weekends going to shows at Cain's. I've played there one time and it was awesome.
We hit up a mexican joint in our town called Cha Cha's before our journey.
Checked into our hotel in Tulsa and hung out at Caz's bar, a Tulsa favorite of mine and then Soundpony. Caught up with a few friends and headed next door to the show. It was awesome.

Last Tuesday was Husband's 29th birthday. We grilled out and I brought home cupcakes from Sugar.
Workout gear. It's easier to track my progress with pictures. I really don't get on the scale very often.
pink sweater, brown boots.

Baby Jack started "school" last week. 3 days a week for 5 hours each day. So far, he has been a good baby. I was so scared the first day, expecting a call about my kid biting or pinching another kid, but instead he was a number 10 on their "Happy Meter." Very good. And they're very impressed with this kid's style. Of course.

Friday we had a birthday party for Husband. It was fun and a little drunk. I made butter pecan cupcakes and a peanut butter thing that turned out pretty awesome.
I have a ton of great photos to upload from my real camera but it's just easier to upload pics from my phone. I know, I'm lazy. I'll get around to it.
The Oscars on on so I'm going inside to make dinner and hang out on the couch.

Well, well, well...

Happy Father's Day! Yesterday, i suppose. Haven't checked in- in a long while. Things have been good. Busy. With baby tantrums and whatnot. Baby no longer accepts nighttime. He says it's absolutely unacceptable. And by "says," i mean screams. You haven't had your heart ripped out (no matter what junior high love tells you) until you've heard your child scream "MOMMA MOMMA MOMMA MOMMA MOMMA- etc." every single night for 30 minutes- FOR 3 WEEKS. It's heartbreaking. I can't lay him in his crib because he's a smart baby and knows what's going on before you walk through his bedroom door. So Husband does the dirty work. And for that, and a million other things, i thank him. Thank you, Husband. You are the best. I love you.

I can't begin to backtrack so we'll start fresh. This friday, our friends came to hang out after Baby went to sleep. It was fun. David and I discussed our new business venture- more to come on that later. Anna and I discussed work things and fitness. The boys drank beer, we drank wine. They smoked cigarettes, I tried out my new E-Cig. I used to be a regular, gross smoker and now, after not smoking for a year when i was preggers and also when I had a newborn, I smoke when I drink- so absolutely never around the baby. Gross? It is. Satisfying? Yes, it is. My mom knew I smoked, back when- and always disapproved, but my dad and I have never discussed it. I do not smoke around them or old people or preggies or babies/kids. But now i'm very close to 30 years old and i've decided that i'm not scared of smoking because of my parents or anyone elses' parents, but scared that Baby won't have a mommy if she keeps smoking- even if only socially. So I'm trying to quit that. Hence the electronic cigarette. We'll see how this goes. I'm rooting for you, weird water vapor cigarette.

So Saturday, we ran around town like a cute little family during the day and then Baby stayed at my momma's house that evening and night. My mom did not call or text me once, which I was VERY grateful for because I needed a break from fetching juice and reading the same book 20 times in a row. I also needed some hardcore sleep. So we met up with our friends, Kris and Casey, for Casey's birthday dinner/party. Ate at Blu, (sorta?) partied at Opie's. Ok. Opie's is not cool, however mildly entertaining for totally sober, baby-free parents. Wow. I wish I had taken my camera to that place. Anyway, we were home and in bed at a decent time, not drunky at all- and had a good nights sleep, thanks to my momma. Which reminds me, Happy Father's Day, Mom! Trust me, she deserves it. Oh yeah, Happy Father's Day to my dad too.

Once again, I want to tell Husband what an amazing father he is. When i wake Baby up in the mornings the first thing he says is "I want the ball!" BUT the second thing he says is "Dada????" and looks for his daddy. Jack laughs the hardest when he's playing with his daddy. I love that laugh.

Among other things that happened this weekend, we went brunch at Ricki's, bought a pool for the baby (Husband and I can fit in it too!), watched a lot of football, baseball, and golf on TV, went to summer breeze, made a lot of food, and watched Khloe and Kourtney Take Miami and Holly's World. Why? Because they're fun.

Husband and I have our 2 year wedding anniversary coming up soon! We're trying to figure out what to do for it and also where we should go on vacation. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. festivalcityfilms@hotmail.com

It's late, I should probably be reading a book or something.

I'll be your honey, if you'll be sweet

This weekend, Baby had a baby birthday party to attend.  He found this tractor toy and played on it for a good while.  He played in the baby moon bounce and ball pit, he ate cake, cheetos, and candy, and he kissed 3 other babies.  He's very loving.
Baby and his cousin.

Baby gives sugars.
Aimery shared his birthday cake with Baby.
Apparently the babies didn't want to get their hands sticky.  They've got this stuff figured out.

Sunday we went to the Dachshund Dash in Oklahoma City.  Baby ate cookies and nachos and wanted to pet the dogs.  It was a fun little rainy day afternoon.

Last week, Baby and I met Husband and my father-in-law in Okc for lunch.  Baby was not very cooperative.  Lately, going out to eat with him is not fun.  At all.  He really wants to feed himself with utensils but ends up making a huge mess.  He also likes to throw fits when you won't take him out of his highchair so he can destroy the room and he also throws fits when you won't let him eat crayons.
Also last week, my BFF, Anna, came to Norman to have lunch with Baby and I.  We went to The Mont where Baby threw many tantrums.  I think he scared Anna into never having children.
He did look pretty cute though.

Next weekend is the Norman Music Festival.  We will be playing Saturday night at 11pm at Bill and Dee's.  We've got a lot of practicing to do this week.  And I'm already tired.  Baby has been very clingy lately.  He wants me to hold him even more than usual.  (it is possible, crazy, i know.)  Baby is also teething which makes my life a little bit like hell in the evening when nothing makes him happy but biting me.

I said I was going to make a birthday list but I haven't started it yet.  Husband says he's planning something for me but so far there are zero plans.  Why am I not surprised?  Are you reading this, Husband?  I hate to say I told you so-  so I'll shut my mouth and get another glass of wine.
