Kevin Durant, Paula Abdul, and Michael Jordan walk into a bar...

So if you've ever met Jack or read anything I post about him on facebook, you already know he tells everyone his name is Jack Kevin Durant Brady. Sometimes it's Jack Brady Kevin Durant, depending on his mood. He loves the Thunder. He loves Rumble. All he's been talking about for the past 7 months is his Thunder birthday party. (no joke- 7 months.) Sometimes he simply calls it "my Kevin Durant party." This kid may be the biggest (little) Thunder fan there ever was.

A. The picture above was taken the day after he attended his very first Thunder game. So proudly he wore his Rumble pullover and Thunder hat- for a week straight. He still sleeps with "Baby Rumble" every night and he takes his Rumble bag to school everyday and to his grandma's for overnight stays.

B. These are his "Westbrook glasses." He wears them on the reg even though he doesn't need glasses. Thunder fashion glasses, everyone. He is 3 years old.

C. He cried when he found out James Harden had been traded to the Rockets. He had just gotten his tonsils out and he was on pain meds so that may have had something to do with his highly emotional state but he seriously cried real tears.

OK. We made the major mistake of saying we were going to try and book Rumble to come to his party. Rumble has a prior commitment out of town that day and can't come. The next available day he has is in February. There's an out of town Thunder game so obviously Kevin Durant can't come either. We didn't want to upset Jack so we didn't say anything in hopes that he would be distracted at his party and not even think about Rumble or KD being there.

My husband is out of town for the night so Jack and I were cruising the internet finding Thunder themed napkins and basketball candles and he started talking about how excited he was that Rumble was going to be there. I had to say something at that point because I would rather him be disappointed now than at the end of his party wondering when Rumble was going to be there. I broke the news Rumble would be out of town and I knew he would be sad but I didn't think he would react the way he did. He started crying. Balling. Devastated.

So, I know he's only 3. I know there are many more serious disappointments in life. I know you don't always get what you want. I know we should be thankful for the things we have. I also remember how heartbroken I was when I had the flu the day of the Paula Abdul concert. My mom made me a special red lace, tiered mini-skirt and i hot glued red rhinestones on a black tank top and I wasn't going to get to wear it. You laugh because I loved Paula Abdul. Go ahead, i was little. But you know, I didn't just love her- I wanted to be like her when I grew up. It didn't happen and that's not the point but- I remember the feeling I had that day and the days after and straight up now tell me, I know it sucks.

After an hour of trying to console and reason with my son, i recorded a minute of it so i could send it to my husband, in hopes we could figure something else out. Move his party to a later date or something along those lines. I later posted it to my facebook wall because he is so cute and sincere and I just couldn't keep it to myself.

This one is just sweet. He says he misses KD and Rumble.

The next video was about an hour into our talk. It is sad. Proceed with caution. Also, yes, he's holding a binky. He's too old for it, I know. The binky is put up unless there is an emergency and when he is distraught he likes to hold it. Sue me.

Oh, I asked Jack if it was ok to post these videos and he encouraged it. He's only 3 (almost 4) but I would never want to make him feel embarrassed or anything like that.

Jack had a long day and he fell asleep early. I decided to check my email because, well, i rarely do. This is what I found.

Is it the real Michael Jordan? I don't know. Sure! I like to think so. Is it? Who knows. The real Michael Jordan would know. ANYWAY. I like it. It's awesome. When I show Jack tomorrow morning (not that he can read but whatever) he's going to be happy. I'm not getting his hopes up about anyone being at his party though. EVER AGAIN. (Poor little guy.) One the other hand, PLEASE COME TO JACK'S 4TH BIRTHDAY PARTY, MICHAEL JORDAN! How amazing would that be. Seriously.

Night night.

gametime.

Jack looks very cute in his OU shirt and polo shorts but he's too busy to let me take a photo of him.  "No, mama, later."  Ok, FINE.  I'll take pictures of myself instead.  We're about to head up to do some serious tailgating.  If you don't live in Oklahoma, you just may not understand.

I'm so weird that I have to eat something fried with ranch dressing before every home game.  Is that weird?  I think it's weird.  I don't know where I came up with that but I've been doing it for years and years and I've got other people doing it too.

Shout out to Angela, who is obsessed with OU football but who is currently living in Mexico.  The season will miss you dearly.  (And I miss you dearly.)

there's a baby in there.

Ok, let's lighten the mood around here.  Taylor, my beautiful sister-in-law, is pregnant with her second child.  I CAN'T WAIT for this baby to get here.  They moved to Shreveport a while ago and are just moving back this week.  moving when you're pregnant totally sucks as i remember.  Last weekend I took some maternity photos of Taylor.  I think they turned out beautiful.  Especially considering we were in 100 something degree Oklahoma heat for 45 minutes.  I was sweating and covered in dirt like a little boy.  She was glowing, not sweating, and gorgeous.

Jack is going to be so happy when he fully understands they are moving back for good.  He's going to be such a good big brother someday-  he looks out for his cousin, Peyton, and it's so rewarding to see the good character he already shows at 2.5 years old.  in case you're one of the only people my mom didn't tell-  i'll have you know, i have won more than one citizenship award in my day.

*no, these weren't taken with my phone.  Nikon D300.

Change of subject.  Funny thing just happened-  Husband's iphone just fell into a big pile of ranch dressing he had on his plate.  True Okies eat ranch on everything.

Alright.  Jack is sleeping (on our bed) and I'm into my second glass of pinot grigio.  This means back porch time starts now.

a real wedding.

I think my hand is broken. I've got 2 new songs almost completely finished. The Baby is hurting my spirit this week with his bad behavior. My dad is taking my little brother to Paris in a couple of weeks. My dad didn't call me on my birthday. I minored in French in college. Had dinner with my best friend the other night and remembered how much I love and trust her. Baby starts swimming lessons next week, 3 times a week. Baby needs a nap RIGHT now.
Flew to Alabama for Husband's cousin's wedding. Baby's first "airpane" ride. Husband read magazines while I baby wrangled. Not sure I'll ever travel with both of them at the same time- EVER AGAIN! I'm not sure who whines more.

above: I took this picture of the beautiful bride, right before she walked down the aisle.

above: Baby's wedding outfit was cute but he really needed a belt. His pants fell down and his shirt came untucked every 10 seconds. He was so amped up during the ceremony that Husband and I had to chase him around in the church hallways and I missed my favorite part! The reception was in a gorgeous location and the food was delicious.

We visited this awesome place outside of town. There's a bar, a chapel, cabins, and hunting. The chapel is the most charming place I've ever seen. If we had something like that here in Oklahoma, I would definitely get married there. So darling.

Back to Oklahoma, laundry, the dog and cats, the internet. Back to my own fluffy, comfy bed with clean sheets and Baby is back in his own bed, sleeping through the night. I love to travel but I also love, love, love Oklahoma.

the easter bun bun.

Baby is getting taller, skinnier, louder, bossier, and more independent everyday. Some days he's sweet, some days he's in a bad mood. Goes with the 2 year old territory I guess. This weekend we had egg hunts, a birthday, a wedding reception, and a friend in town. It rained. We ate red curry and pra ram. I drank a little wine, Husband drank a few beers. We watched an obscene number of Friday Night Lights episodes on Netflix streaming. Ohmygod that show is SO GOOD. If I talked about how great it is, it could have it's own blog. I'm sure there's one somewhere. Oh Tim Riggins, you are beautiful.
Baby was sick last week so he missed school and I didn't get to visit my Grandma. As nice as it is to have the baby around all day, everyday- this mommy needs a little break. We have several friends who offer to watch him every week but then can't ever actually watch him. I know how it is though, people have lives. I'm guilty of living in my little bubble with Baby and Husband and dismissing everything else. That's something I need to work on. But... if you are a friend and can watch Jack this evening or tomorrow evening, that would be awesome and I will owe you a huge favor. Like, if you're ever stranded in a nearby state, I will totally come and pick you up. Or if you leave your wallet at home, I'll buy your lunch. Or I'll just take you out for dinner sometime. Babysitter's choice!
What's going on- Tonight Mates of State play a free show at OU. It's rainy outside so they've moved it inside. BOO! We thought about taking Jack but I think it'll be too crowded inside so we probably won't go. Water for Elephants opened in theaters this weekend- i loved the book so i'm excited to see it. Wednesday we have The Oh Johnny! Girls' rehearsal. Thursday we play the opening day of the Norman Music Festival. Bill and Dee's at 11pm. Saturday I play twice with my other band, Bulletproof Tiger. 1:30 at the Opolis and 3:30 at the Blue Bonnet Bar.
above: My dad cut a piece of birthday cake for Jack (my niece's sweet 16) and the birthday girl wasn't even there yet! There was a big hole cut out while she blew out her candles. Jack was appreciative.
above: The early works of Jack H. E. Brady. Baby Jack's school/church had an art fundraiser for a new playground and art center. Jack's painting sold for $30. The kid has art in his blood- i can actually hang it up! I love it. Some of those other kids have questionable art skills. Jack, once again, you rule.

above and below: Saturday night we had a casual sort of wedding reception to attend. It was nice to see old friends. We stopped by The Library and The Garage before the party. The Garage is new and I like it. Last week I went to Blackbird Gastropub and liked it too. Feels good to have some new places in town to go to.
Baby Jack calls the Easter Bunny "Bun Bun" and is terrified of him. I never knew he could hold on to me so tight. I don't blame him though- Bun Bun was pretty creepy looking. Sunday we had lunch at The Trails. Bun Bun was there and we went on an egg hunt in the men's locker room because of the crazy rain floods. Jack had fun, I had a mimosa. I went casual with gap jeans and a white banana republic shirt, a trench, and heels. A pastel dress just seems weird to wear when it's dark and crappy outside. I LOVE Easter dress hunting so it was disappointing but there's always next year.

I erased all contacts in my phone yesterday. Yay! I'm such a mess already this week. If you're around, let's get a glass of wine or something. I need to get out of the house, even if it's for an hour.

This Ol' Honky Tonk.

Today has been a great day. Baby Jack slept in so we slept in. Had brunch at Iguana Grill in OKC with my mom, brother, and sister-in-law for Husband's birthday. Afterwards, Husband, Jack and I went to Edmond to visit my grandma in her new place- she was moved to a nursing home. It was a pleasant place and she was in good spirits, playing with Jack and talking golf with Husband.
Up top- This is what I'm doing right this second. Sitting on the back porch, drinking a budweiser with ice, listening to Townes Van Zandt and Dwight Yoakam and painting my nails my favorite shade- OPI Koala Berry. Jack is playing in the yard with his four wheeler and his baby lawn mower and Husband is drinking beer and singing along to songs, rocking in his chair.
It's 77 degrees and the sun is setting over the giant hill in our back yard. This is Oklahoma so we're enjoying this weather now because it could very well blizzard or tornado tomorrow, no telling.
Baby Jack had a chocolate ice cream cone on the way home. Very messy.

Last weekend, Husband and our friend David went up to Tulsa to watch Broken Social Scene at the legendary Cain's Ballroom. I spent most of my high school weekends going to shows at Cain's. I've played there one time and it was awesome.
We hit up a mexican joint in our town called Cha Cha's before our journey.
Checked into our hotel in Tulsa and hung out at Caz's bar, a Tulsa favorite of mine and then Soundpony. Caught up with a few friends and headed next door to the show. It was awesome.

Last Tuesday was Husband's 29th birthday. We grilled out and I brought home cupcakes from Sugar.
Workout gear. It's easier to track my progress with pictures. I really don't get on the scale very often.
pink sweater, brown boots.

Baby Jack started "school" last week. 3 days a week for 5 hours each day. So far, he has been a good baby. I was so scared the first day, expecting a call about my kid biting or pinching another kid, but instead he was a number 10 on their "Happy Meter." Very good. And they're very impressed with this kid's style. Of course.

Friday we had a birthday party for Husband. It was fun and a little drunk. I made butter pecan cupcakes and a peanut butter thing that turned out pretty awesome.
I have a ton of great photos to upload from my real camera but it's just easier to upload pics from my phone. I know, I'm lazy. I'll get around to it.
The Oscars on on so I'm going inside to make dinner and hang out on the couch.
