babies and upholstery

We just had our 3 year anniversary yesterday and looking back on that time is very strange. Not in a bad way, just not conventional i guess. I've basically only known him as my husband and a father because we met and 2 months later were married and pregnant. I feel so fortunate to have such a great man in my life and such a great little boy but sometimes feel like we missed out on doing a lot of things couples do before any of that comes along. Not that it's important now, but it would have been fun and nice to have those memories together.

Jack was in Alabama all of last week and I missed him like crazy. The first few days would have been fun except I had a fight with my mom and my little brother and on top of that, I had a summer cold that really sucked. I was just a little sad but I wrote and recorded a new song and lounged around the house with allergy meds and cough drops. Thursday and Friday, Husband played golf and I REALLY started to miss my chicken. I get lonely when he's gone, he's my little buddy. Saturday, we stayed at the Waterford in OKC like we did last year. Hung out at the pool, had a couple of cocktails. There's always a wedding party staying there on the weekend of our anniversary as it is a very popular wedding weekend. The hotel bar by the end of the night was insane and funny. I'll post pics of this stuff later. For now, I have a question.

Is it time for another baby? We talk about it all the time and Husband was ready weeks ago. Some days I wake up and really want to be pregnant again. Is that weird? I think it's weird but I'm sure it's some biological trick. I would like to be pregnant in the winter like I was with Jack so I need to make this decision pretty soon. They say every pregnancy is different so maybe the next time I'll be all glow-y without morning sickness or food aversions and I won't retain water like a MF.

If I get pregnant, what will I do about playing music? I played until I was about 7 months last time but it was really hard. Then I didn't start playing again until a while after having Jack. So many decisions. When is the right time, guys? Do I want to be pregnant and chasing after a 2 year old? Do we have room in our house for another baby? The answer is no- we don't! We have an extra room but if it's another nursery, where do my guitars and computer go? Where do the guests stay? Would we every have guests again? Will Husband and I ever have a night out again? How much weight will I gain and how long will it take for me to work it off? Can we afford another baby? All of this sounds like a nightmare however, I want another baby to love like crazy. Jack would be a really good big brother. He's very caring and helpful and he always asks when we get to have a baby. (i wonder who taught him that!)

I wouldn't care if we had a boy or girl as long as we have a happy and healthy baby. I wonder if it would look like Jack? Will it be harder the second time or easier? Am I crazy? If I get pregnant again, can I talk Husband into not staring at facebook and golf websites on his phone while driving us around? Yes, people, he does this and I've started to take his phone away unless he gets a work call. It scares the shit out of me, especially when my chicken is in the car. Dear Husband, QUIT IT, it's irresponsible.

Originally, we had agreed to have another baby a year or so after Jack was born so they'd be close in age. Husband had promised we'd have a real wedding the summer after Jack was born and that didn't happen. So then, I made a deal with him- we'd talk about having a baby after he kept his promise. At that rate, Jack would be an only child and that's not what I want.
We've gotten new stainless appliances and now we just need to find an affordable and cool stainless stove. In my dreams it's an industrial gas stove but anything stainless would definitely be awesome. I'd also like to replace our ugly cabinets with white exposed shelving and rip out the totally 70's backsplash and matching countertops and use something simple. Our kitchen is small and I have pretty dishes.

Dude. I just remembered that we bought lottery tickets on Saturday- which is Husband's lucky day. (the day he survived a horrible car accident- probably facebooking and driving- 3 years ago and last year we went on that crazy car chase and chased down our own truck and the guy who broke into our house.) We figured, what the hell- maybe we'll get lucky. The drawing is tonight, I think. Wish us luck. Wish my kitchen luck.

I'm about to paint our bedroom a dark gray/blackish color. I finished a new painting to go above the bed and I'm on the lookout for neato matching bedside lamps. If it were totally up to me, I'd go more in the direction of the room below. Pink, gold, vintage and fabulous.
I am getting something really cool reupholstered and I'm thinking pink but possibly black. Like the color of pink in the first picture posted if I can find the material.
1. Baby or no baby?
2. nevermind number 2.
3. Gray or pink room?
4. Pink or black upholstery?
5. Luck?
6. One more luck?
thanks. ♥ jp

away we sail.

and i don't know where. you and me, baby, we're goin there.
This is my favorite Jack outfit. I think. I don't know- he's dressed like a little rockabilly baby today and it's pretty awesome and adorable. There will be photos to share later.

This is my lunch lately. These things are tasty!
I had a giftcard to Sephora! I bought these things that I love. Thanks, Sandy.

Dress shopping for a wedding. I bought the gray one but I want the pink one now too.

40% off everything at the Gap last week! I love those sales. I found a really cool shirt for $4.80. And a few other things, of course.

I taught him how to plug in my stage tuner. He really, really wanted to plug his guitar in.
We went to see Dave and Darcy and Lydia this week. Jack was being jealous and kicking things and climbing on furniture so we had to leave. I didn't want to scare them!
We're off to have a great weekend. I have a private party to play tomorrow night on a rooftop downtown. We're going to cruise the Plaza District tonight and I have a workout to get through this morning so I'd better go.

a real wedding.

I think my hand is broken. I've got 2 new songs almost completely finished. The Baby is hurting my spirit this week with his bad behavior. My dad is taking my little brother to Paris in a couple of weeks. My dad didn't call me on my birthday. I minored in French in college. Had dinner with my best friend the other night and remembered how much I love and trust her. Baby starts swimming lessons next week, 3 times a week. Baby needs a nap RIGHT now.
Flew to Alabama for Husband's cousin's wedding. Baby's first "airpane" ride. Husband read magazines while I baby wrangled. Not sure I'll ever travel with both of them at the same time- EVER AGAIN! I'm not sure who whines more.

above: I took this picture of the beautiful bride, right before she walked down the aisle.

above: Baby's wedding outfit was cute but he really needed a belt. His pants fell down and his shirt came untucked every 10 seconds. He was so amped up during the ceremony that Husband and I had to chase him around in the church hallways and I missed my favorite part! The reception was in a gorgeous location and the food was delicious.

We visited this awesome place outside of town. There's a bar, a chapel, cabins, and hunting. The chapel is the most charming place I've ever seen. If we had something like that here in Oklahoma, I would definitely get married there. So darling.

Back to Oklahoma, laundry, the dog and cats, the internet. Back to my own fluffy, comfy bed with clean sheets and Baby is back in his own bed, sleeping through the night. I love to travel but I also love, love, love Oklahoma.

the easter bun bun.

Baby is getting taller, skinnier, louder, bossier, and more independent everyday. Some days he's sweet, some days he's in a bad mood. Goes with the 2 year old territory I guess. This weekend we had egg hunts, a birthday, a wedding reception, and a friend in town. It rained. We ate red curry and pra ram. I drank a little wine, Husband drank a few beers. We watched an obscene number of Friday Night Lights episodes on Netflix streaming. Ohmygod that show is SO GOOD. If I talked about how great it is, it could have it's own blog. I'm sure there's one somewhere. Oh Tim Riggins, you are beautiful.
Baby was sick last week so he missed school and I didn't get to visit my Grandma. As nice as it is to have the baby around all day, everyday- this mommy needs a little break. We have several friends who offer to watch him every week but then can't ever actually watch him. I know how it is though, people have lives. I'm guilty of living in my little bubble with Baby and Husband and dismissing everything else. That's something I need to work on. But... if you are a friend and can watch Jack this evening or tomorrow evening, that would be awesome and I will owe you a huge favor. Like, if you're ever stranded in a nearby state, I will totally come and pick you up. Or if you leave your wallet at home, I'll buy your lunch. Or I'll just take you out for dinner sometime. Babysitter's choice!
What's going on- Tonight Mates of State play a free show at OU. It's rainy outside so they've moved it inside. BOO! We thought about taking Jack but I think it'll be too crowded inside so we probably won't go. Water for Elephants opened in theaters this weekend- i loved the book so i'm excited to see it. Wednesday we have The Oh Johnny! Girls' rehearsal. Thursday we play the opening day of the Norman Music Festival. Bill and Dee's at 11pm. Saturday I play twice with my other band, Bulletproof Tiger. 1:30 at the Opolis and 3:30 at the Blue Bonnet Bar.
above: My dad cut a piece of birthday cake for Jack (my niece's sweet 16) and the birthday girl wasn't even there yet! There was a big hole cut out while she blew out her candles. Jack was appreciative.
above: The early works of Jack H. E. Brady. Baby Jack's school/church had an art fundraiser for a new playground and art center. Jack's painting sold for $30. The kid has art in his blood- i can actually hang it up! I love it. Some of those other kids have questionable art skills. Jack, once again, you rule.

above and below: Saturday night we had a casual sort of wedding reception to attend. It was nice to see old friends. We stopped by The Library and The Garage before the party. The Garage is new and I like it. Last week I went to Blackbird Gastropub and liked it too. Feels good to have some new places in town to go to.
Baby Jack calls the Easter Bunny "Bun Bun" and is terrified of him. I never knew he could hold on to me so tight. I don't blame him though- Bun Bun was pretty creepy looking. Sunday we had lunch at The Trails. Bun Bun was there and we went on an egg hunt in the men's locker room because of the crazy rain floods. Jack had fun, I had a mimosa. I went casual with gap jeans and a white banana republic shirt, a trench, and heels. A pastel dress just seems weird to wear when it's dark and crappy outside. I LOVE Easter dress hunting so it was disappointing but there's always next year.

I erased all contacts in my phone yesterday. Yay! I'm such a mess already this week. If you're around, let's get a glass of wine or something. I need to get out of the house, even if it's for an hour.

weddings & tornados.

The Oklahoma History Center. Husband and I got married here- it didn't look much different from this picture except we had folding chairs and it was sunny outside. In planning my pretend blog wedding, I would consider this venue again- I love Oklahoma and our history. I played with The Oh Johnny! Girls and met Wanda Jackson in this room. We've also been featured in a few different exhibits in the museum- they have videos and memorabilia of my band which is pretty neat. You can see the state capitol and my dad's sculpture from this window. My dad had quite a role in the existence of the history center. Lots of oil exhibits, of course, so that ties into Husband's side of the family as well. The curator had talked to Husband about doing interviews with his family about their family business and their role in the oil business. If you are around Oklahoma City, you should check it out. http://www.okhistorycenter.org/
I can't decide on a color scheme for my blog wedding. Pink + Cream + Gold? Lavender + Gray + Black? Pink + Black + Gold? Lavender + Gray + Gold? Some variation of these colors.

I would def have Kathleen at www.jeremyandkathleen.blogspot.com design the invitations. She mentioned wanting to do a black on black design on twitter the other day and that sounds perfect. Check out her designs! Very cool. Very retro/vintage-y vibe.

Above: yes, I'll take this Vera Wang dress, please. I'm not afraid of a purple dress.
Below: bridesmaids perhaps?

Below: I'll also take this Vera Wang gown. Also not afraid of a pink dress!

Above and below: Pink wedding bridesmaids. Currently loving long, glamorous and very feminine dresses.

Above and below: I would also try these on. Just to see.
Below: Speaking of glamour... yes, thank you.
Maybe I should be doing more constructive things with my time rather than pretend blog wedding planning. I don't know. I'm currently under the weather, which is an every other week ordeal in our household thanks to tiny toddler hands that must touch everything in public and the mini meltdowns where the kid actually seems to melt like butter on parking lot pavement or grocery store floors. If that fails to get us sick, there's always the children's day out program he goes to 3 times a week. I was always my mom's sickly kid. Maybe I like the attention too, who knows. I am, after all, a middle child.

Taking the kid to school.
New precious babies are being born, spring weddings are about to happen, couples are newly engaged. Shower this and shower that. It must be my age because I can't remember this many big things happening in one season. May I remind you, this is the season I turn the dirty thirty. On the real, you guys. Next post will have something to do with birthday wishes.

Finished making red beans + rice and cornbread for the boys and now I'm off to shower and then hang out in my beloved sweatpants (i seriously think Husband hid or threw away my blue ones!) and watch Californication. Yesterday we added Showtime to our cable channels just so we could check out season 4. I love Karen, she's my favorite character- and Hank Moody is easy on the eyes.
